Transmedia

UNWRITTEN: The Augmented Reality App. (Christina)

Experience and interact in the world of "Unwritten" by downloading the app for free.

One of our “Unwritten” transmedia elements is the augmented reality app: “Unwritten.” The augmented reality app will feature two modes of play: “Explore mode” and “Game mode.” Explore Mode would entail looking through the lens of Sam’s glasses, giving the audience a chance to step inside Sam’s world without leaving their own.  Through this mode, you can experience elements of Sam’s world and the “book world” of Liv and Annie in real time. For example, if you open up any notebook to a blank sheet of paper, you can see Sam’s book and her work in progress. Open your refrigerator and there you will find a bottle of wine! Watch the trailer to unlock hidden secrets about Liv and Annie.  In Game Mode, the user gets the chance to play as Annie as she tries to find out where in the world is Liv. Find clues to get one step closer to finding Liv. In both modes of play, you have access to your camera to take pictures where the augmented and real world meet and have the option of sharing on social media.

The augmented reality app is transmedia because it gives an extended understanding of the story’s universe. Through the Game Mode, the player gets to play as Annie, where in the interactive narrative, viewers saw the world through Liv’s point of view. Get to play as Annie and learn more about her character and the world she lives in. The app expands the “Unwritten” universe, in general, where the viewer can get a deeper and more connected experience with the story world and its characters.

By playing along in this augmented reality app, leaves the audience with a different form of consumption of the same “Unwritten” universe. Instead of sitting and interacting with Sam/Liv, the app lets one physically move around to unlock clues or hidden secrets about this mysterious universe.  The app would be able to make the user feel like he/she is part of the story world by exploring their own world to help Annie find Liv or they can just learn more about the “Unwritten” world, in general.

In order to use this transmedia element, you would have to download the “Unwritten” app through our website or through the App Store. The augmented reality app would let the audience experience the world of “Unwritten” in a different, more interactive form of play.

Twitter Pages (Wanda)

Another one of our "Unwritten" transmedia elements is Twitter accounts for both characters. This gives the audience a different platform to view what is going on in each character's minds. The audience will be able to read tweets before Sam is transported into her book, during hunt for her way back, and after when it is all over. This will give the audience a sense of their personality. Like the app, the Twitter accounts gives an extended understanding of the story's universe. It gives information on what leads to Sam to write the book and shows how Sam feels after being transported back into reality. This also gives the audience a look into Sam's point of view of what is going on. They will be able to learn about her character and her relationship with Liv in the world that she lives in.

Merchandise (Mackenzie)

Unwritten lends itself to an array of different profitable items that also increase viewer awareness. We have established a line of journals for audience members to purchase and gain more insight into the mind of our main character Sam. It contains her thoughts and feelings during her journey, the important aspects that she had written before she was trapped in her novel and the details about Annie you won't find anywhere else. As a transmedia element, the journal lends itself as an aide in developing the world further for the audience member. They are allowed into Sam's inner thoughts and feelings, determining how their perceptions of the story will change with more information. It follows the plot line of the narrative as well, so it will focus on the interactive elements included in the actual project.

As a profitable item, it allows us to gain different variations of income from the project. We have established a world within a world that viewers want to know about and this is their chance to learn more about Sam and her story. We hope this will bring about a cult following for Unwritten

Unwritten Wine (Cheryl)

Unwritten reveals itself in a form of fine wine, Cabernet Sauvignon. Unwritten is going above and beyond the screen and into wine coolers. Created from the rich soils of Napa Vally, California, Unwritten contains a bold, rich, smooth texture, aged in oak barrels for 4 months. The grapes are carefully selected from vineyards rich from the California rain, soil, and sun.

Unwritten is bottled carefully with high quality glass and gentle hands that even the wine connoisseur could taste the gentle touch of the grapes. Drink the wine chilled and delve into the creative world of Sam.
